Banking in Indiana

I finally decided I should close my accounts with my old bank in Indiana since I have no reason to keep them open. Since I don't really feel like driving back there, I figure I can just call the bank and do it over the phone. Boy, was I wrong. First, I get the most unhelpful person on the phone you can imagine. I called at lunchtime, and this lady sounded like she was falling a sleep, yawning loudly into the phone every 20 seconds. That's pretty annoying as a customer calling in, but that's nothing compared to what I'll have to do to close my account. When I first said I would like to close my account, she said I would have to come in to the bank and do that. After telling her that I was several states away (Hey, I am if you go through Ohio!), she seemed surprised, and tiredly told me I would need to print out a form and mail it in. This form can be found on thier website, yada yawn, yada yada. She obviously has never been on their website, as there are no "forms" to fill out and send in. I think she just wanted to get back to her nap.

To make a long pointless ramble longer, I only have 1.74 in my two accounts, and that's because their online banking system forces me to keep 1.00 in my savings account. I'm getting ready to write myself a check for .74, then transfer once cent at a time until I run out of checks! Seeing how it costs them .37 to send my statement every time, they're losing money by not letting me close my account over the phone. Maybe someday I'll call back when I need some entertainment.
