MythTv take 2
Here's some more on my mythTV attempt. First, i really need to get another keyboard, mouse and CD drive that will boot CD's (for some reason the DVD Drive I got for the mythTV box doesn't like to boot many CDs, not even the Windows XP one.
Here's what happened this time. No matter what I do, I can't get the current version of KnoppMyth to install. I may have to try getting an older version, and seeing if that works. Since that doesn't work, I decided to follow a walk through for Fedora Core 4, and mythTV, which made it look fairly simple. After installing FC4 twice (so I messed up the partitions the first time....), I was able to boot into it, and play around with my new, fun linux box. I managed to get MythTV to install, but I couldn't get it to recognize my capture card (PCHDTV 3000 one). Since I'm a linux newb, I spent about 2 hours looking around various sites from google, and all that I came up with was that it should have been working, since FC4 had built in support for it.
Next attempt will include changeing slots on the MB, and completely reinstalling FC4, and following the howto again, since now I actually know a little more about what I'm doing. Oh, and setting up VNC on it so I can work from my desk, instead of the living room floor.

Love the Best Buy!
I wanted to get a 1 GB memory stick, so I went to best buy to see what they had. I really wanted something with the cap attached to it, since I know i'd loose it in a month otherwise. They had their "Geek Squad" brand for $99.99, with the cap attached, which made me happy, but was a bit expensive. Then i saw that they had the Swiss Army USB devices. Since the new one is actually removable, (so you can take the memory part with you on the airplane, I decided I'd get that. Then I saw the price tag. The price on the package was $199.99, and the price on the sign for it was 104.99-20 mail in rebate=84.99. I knew from looking at them on thinkgeek, that they would be about $170, and other places have them for about $200. Was the 84.99 price too good to be true? No!
I'm pretty happy with that purchase, so if you want a cool USB drive, get to Best Buy before they take the sale off of them, or realize they are selling them at 50% off.

Today, since I've been working in Virginia, I decided to drive to Shenandoah National Park for a day hike. I did a trail up Old Rag Mountain (peak 3288 ft). The parking area was between eight and nine hundred feet, so there was about 2400 ft. of elevation gain to reach the top. The total trail was just over 7.2 miles, with a .8 mile walk from the parking area to the trail head. I finished in just over 4 hours! Unfortuneatly, I didn't bring my day pack, or hiking boots with me, so I had to carry 4 bottles of water in my pants pockets, and hike in my steel toe boots. Oh well, I still enjoyed it. I'll post some pictures I took in a few days.
There were only two down sides to the trip, one it was a pretty popular trail, and with in driving distance of DC, so it was fairly crowded, but not too bad. The other was the fact that today was very hazy, so you the veiws weren't as spectacular as they could have been.
